Active sEMG Monitoring

The SPEAC® System is a portable system designed to monitor and analyze surface electromyography (EMG) signals that may be associated with generalized tonic-clonic (GTC) seizures and to provide an alarm to alert caregivers. The System provides adjunctive monitoring during periods of rest.

Why sEMG?

Surface electromyography (sEMG) has been validated as a clinically useful biomarker through clinical studies that compared it to the gold standard video-EEG (vEEG). In fact, in the clinical validation study, the SPEAC System showed 100% positive agreement with vEEG, as identified by three independent epileptologists. Unlike sEMG monitoring, video EEG monitoring can only be performed in a clinical setting, while the SPEAC System can be used in the home or in a healthcare facility.
