Michael Girouard, CEO, President,
Board Director And Co-Founder
Mike has a long, successful career leading teams developing several medical devices from concept through commercialization for both institutional and home use. He has extensive experience obtaining regulatory clearance and reimbursement for such devices and has 11 issued biomedical patents with multiple others pending. Mike spent 22 years of his career in progressive leadership roles at KCI. After leaving KCI, he spent two years at GXC Global, a medical device consulting firm before founding Brain Sentinel in 2011. Additionally, Mike serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Central and South Texas.
Lulu Schroeder, Chief Financial Officer
Lulu joined Brain Sentinel, Inc. in July 2017. She spent more than 22 years with Kinetic Concepts, Inc., having served as Vice-President and Treasurer, and as Vice President – Head of Global Tax, where she was responsible for Worldwide Income Tax, as well as Customs and Trade Compliance. Most recently, she served as Vice-President-Tax at CST Brands, Inc. Lulu began her career when she joined Ernst and Whinney in 1984. Lulu is a Certified Public Account, and Chartered Global Management Accountant, with a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Jeffrey Jung, Vice President,
Marketing & Reimbursement
Jeff brings over 20 years in the healthcare industry to Brain Sentinel. He was previously the Director of Managed Care and E-business at Kinetic Concepts Inc. (now Acelity). Prior to that, he led the healthcare unit for IBM’s global thought leadership group, the Institute for Business Value. In 2002, he was named a Healthcare Industry ¨Mover and Shaker¨ by Frost and Sullivan. Jeff spent a total of six years in IBM’s Wilkerson Group and Business Consulting Services working with hospital, insurance, pharmaceutical and venture capital clients. Jeff holds an MBA from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University and Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University.
Randy Kelch, Vice President,
Product Development & Engineering
Randy joined Brain Sentinel in late 2016. He has held engineering, manufacturing and management positions in medical device and biologics companies for over 20 years including Aastrom Biosciences, Inc., (now Vericel), KCI (now Acelity) and ArjoHuntleigh. He has worked on several FDA Class II and III devices spanning therapeutic areas from advanced wound care to human stem-cell therapy. Randy served for seven years is the U.S. Navy specializing in electronics, radar, communication and navigations systems. After his service, he graduated with a B.S. degree in Computer Aided Manufacturing from Eastern Michigan University. As an inventor, he has been awarded five patents in multiple fields of engineering including mechanical, electro-mechanical and software systems. He also has several patents pending approval.
Tim Buechner, Chief Operating Officer
Over the past 30 years Tim has held positions in the United States Air Force, the Veteran’s Administration, United Parcel Service, Kinetic Concepts Inc. (now Acelity) and was most recently Vice President of Operations at Tissue Regenix Wound Care, Inc. He has extensive experience in business process management, contracting, project management, revenue cycle, and systems implementations in both established organizations and start-ups domestically and internationally. Tim has won numerous awards over his career for his professionalism and leadership. He holds a B.B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Luke Whitmire, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer
Luke Whitmire obtained his Ph.D. in cellular, molecular and integrative physiology. He has extensive experience in the recording and statistical analysis of hippocampal neurons in-vivo and ex-vivo. He has worked with experimental models of focal and generalized epilepsy and was instrumental in the design and development of the SPEAC System.
Tracy Biltz, President of Sales
Tracy has over 20 years as a sales executive with a proven track record of leadership, building customer oriented teams and consistently exceeding financial targets. She has successfully led numerous product launch efforts in home, skilled and acute markets with both capital and disposable products. Prior to joining Brain Sentinel in 2016, she worked with Belimed, Inc for over 15 years and KCI for over 8 years. Tracy started her career as a MICU Registered Nurse at the University of Kentucky. She transitioned her clinical expertise to serve as the foundation of a long and successful career in medical device sales.
José E. Cavazos, M.D., Ph.D., Co-Founder
Dr. José E. Cavazos is board certified in Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy and Neurology (APBN). He is the Assistant Dean and Program Professor of Neurology at the University of Texas Health at San Antonio and the director of the ACGME accredited Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship at the institution. In addition to serving as a practicing physician, he has participated in many clinical trials of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and devices. He takes care of patients with seizures and epilepsy during pre-surgical evaluations and longitudinally in his VA Epilepsy Clinic. As a nationally known epileptologist who has been working in the field of epilepsy for over 25 years, his clinical expertise and experience have been invaluable in the design and development of the SPEAC System.
